The band is a non-profit youth marching arts organisation that consists of 8-18 year olds from Lanesfield and the surrounding area. The band practices on Wednesdays between 18.45 & 20.30, and Sundays between 14.30 & 17.30.
Lanesfield is an American style marching band consisting of Hornline, Drumline, Front Ensemble and Colour Guard sections. The band competes on a National level within the BB/GB and BYBA competitive circuits.
Each season, the design team follow a concept, and develop it into a sophisticated programme of music and visuals, all tailored to suit the talent and ability levels of the membership.
Throughout the non-competitive, Winter period, the members learn the basics of how to play and march before they are taught the programme. Once the members are more accustomed to the performance, they begin competing in shows. Throughout the Summer the programme is perfected, and the members reach their full potential.
The final show and highlight of the competitive season, is the British Youth Band Association National Championships usually held in September.
All instructors/staff have been involved with the activity for many years and have a vast knowledge of the activity. Every member of staff aged 18+ is subject to a formal CRB check.
In normal circumstances we have three tiers of staff in the team:
Corps Director: Overall responsibility for the group; setting objectives for the group in consultation with the Caption Heads; overseeing practives; planning events; maintaining overall discipline; liasing with parents and representing the interest of the Corps at Boys Brigade/Girls Brigade group level.
Caption Heads: Leading their section (Brass, Percussion, Front Ensemble); ensuring instructors are briefed and that coaching is appropriate to the attainment level of each member; maintaining discipline; planning coaching sessions and ensuring learning; ensuring instructors are available and coaching them to give their best support to the members; setting 'homework'.
Instructors: Supporting the member's musical education in accordance with the plans set out by the Caption Heads; encouraging members to concentrate/learn/develop, providing individual feedback to the section.
